About this Lesson

The Core kite skills lesson is the starting point when learning to Kite surf plus every other kite related sport such as Kite buggying and Snow kiting. Most people have flown a power kite of sorts along the way and had loads of fun ripping it through the sky, realistically “lots of fun” but with limited control.

The importance of this lesson is that we teach you kite control so that when you change the “surface” your on ie: from static (on your feet) to the sea you have the control to keep yourself balanced, basically where the kite goes you go. So what we teach you is how to set up and fly your foil kite using both sides of the wind window with control, with full power  and in a harness, so much fun that`s for sure!

This lesson doesn’t actually need to be more than 3 hours as is strictly land / beach based and is more than enough time to get your skills coordinated in preparation for the Kite starter – SLE lesson where we are in the water straight away. Why are we in the water straight away? Well basically when flying SLE kites they can generate a lot of power if handled incorrectly which in many instances will result in an individual leaving the ground. In water if this does happen then at least have a sort of cushion to bounce across which ultimately reduces your exposure to injury.

AIM: By the end of the lesson we aim to get you completely in control of your foil kite with the right skills so you carry on and learn to Kitesurf, Kite buggy, Land board and Snow kite.

Below is a quide to what your instructor will teach you on your Lesson 1 – Core Kite skills.

Module 1 – Foil Kites
In this module we introduce you to foil kites and teach you how to risk assess your flying zone, set up your kite, launch and fly your kite using the wind window and then how to land safely. Below are the individual parts of your lesson;

• Risk assessment, safety and spacial awareness
• Wind effect
• Set up a trainer kite and know how to use the safety systems
• Launch and land the trainer kite with an assistant
• Fly the kite using both sides of the wind window
• Walk and change directions while flying the kite
• Fly the kite attached to a harness
• Walk and change directions while flying the kite in a harness
