Lancing beach, our local spot, has been JB kitesurfings preferred beach for 3 years. The Kitesurfing is actually really very good at Lancing beach and is an ideal place for Kitesurfing lessons. Our Kitesurfing lessons in Lancing, 20 minutes from Brighton, follow a structured path that everyone can follow and we teach you the skills you will need to reach your goal of standing up on a Kite board and Kitesurfing a short distance out and back to the beach.

Realistically those with no experience would need to join Kitesurfing Lessons ; Step1, 2 and 3. For those that can already fly foil kites then you can skip step 1 and go straight to the water and Kitesurfing Lesson Step 2. As you will see below our kitesurfing lessons are split into four independent modules to allow those that may have previous skills can join us at any stage.

 JBK Lessons

Kitesurfing Lesson: Step 1 – Core kite flying – Click for full details
The Core Skills lesson is an eye opener for most people as many completely under-estimate the power that a small foil kite can generate. It is also the first part of our Beginner Kitesurfing Course.

This 4 hour land based lesson is split into 2 modules. The first module will teach you how to set up, launch and fly a foil kite using all power ranges safely and in total control. The second Module is an introduction to SLE Kitesurfing Kites, totally different and even more fun.

AIM: By the end of the lesson we aim to get you completely in control of your foil kite, be able to set up launch and land a 4 Line kite surfing kite and be ready to go the water on our Step 2 – Water Skills. This lesson will also give you the Flying skills to learn to Pilot a Kite Buggy.

 Where to kite

Zones
The Free rider zone starts just before the beach huts and ends before the out flow pipe.

The teaching zone starts from the out flow pipe and ends just before the Yacht club. This dedicated training area is ONLY to be used by those learning to kitesurf under professional instruction and NOT for those self teaching.

If you are new to kitesurfing and heading downwind then please respect these zones and if a school is teaching please come into shore before the out flow or shortly after, walk back up   wind and start again observing the rights of way!

The parish council has granted a years “self police” approach but for sure if we dont work together on this South Lancing will be closed to Kitesurfers and that would be a real shame!

Kitesurf club

Lancing Kitesurfing Club has been set up to assist Lancing Parish Council and the BKSA to coordinate the management of the sport in Lancing

With the kind support of Lancing Parish Council the club has been able to secure a beach hut for kiters to use. This will be located in the kiting zone and should be in situ for the summer. Lancing Beach and Beach Green are there for everyone to enjoy so please respect other beach users.

Lancing Parish Council and BKSA advise all kitesurfers who wish to kite here should have the appropriate insurance. If you join the club you’ll get a years BKSA insurance which includes:

  • £5 Million 3rd party liability Insurance
  • Use of the beach hut
  • Beach events and BBQ’s

Having BKSA insurance is not just for your safety but also for that of your fellow kiters and other beach users.

Wind direction

Lancing is a south facing beach so the following wind directions work;

South East – Side on from the left
Southerly – On Shore
South West – Side shore from the right (this wind direction is best)

Lancing works best on a south westerley and 2 to 3 hours before and after low tide.
